new media: determining or determined? 2_2 (o712o6)

1.6.4 the many virtues of Sant McLuhan

The extension thesis is that the technology is an 'extensions of man' (based in the nature of the human body).
There are four versions of this thesis.
First, Aristotle is the idea that tools are extensions of soul and body. (Body is the soul’s natural tool.)
Second, Marx is productions of Human industry. For example, railways electric telegraphs machine……
Third, KAPP argued that telegraphics is an extension of nervous system, just as railways extend the circulatory system.
Last, Bergson, if our argans are natural instruments, our instruments must then be artifical organs.

The environmental thesis is ‘the new media are not bridges between man and nature: they are nature.
It is that above a certain threshold of quantitative change, there arises a qualitative change in the structure and functioning of that society.
And technology becomes autonomous determining its own fucture and that of the socity it shapes.

The anti-content thesis is ‘Societies have always been shaped more by the nature of the media by which men communicate than by content of the communication.
“THE MEDIUM IS THE MESSAGE”
Societies have always been shaped more by nature of the media by which men communicate than by content of communication.

Really, Saint McLuhan is eminent person.
I think that his thesis convince me of my a sensory nerve’s important.
How wonderful my sensor is!
